Martina
Business Development Manager
Curious and motivated Martina was born and raised in Feldkirch, Austria. She studied International Business in Innsbruck and spent one year abroad in Granada, Spain to continue her career path. After returning to Austria, she started working for Webgears and wrote her thesis with the help of the company. She’s happy to be part of this great international team and learn from such knowledgeable colleagues.
With a special focus on innovation topics, Martina is a very organized and creative Business Development Manager at Webgears. At the company she explains that “I am able to be part of different processes and work on several projects with other departments. By doing so I’ve been able to find out where my interests lie, what topics are most relevant to me and where I want to further develop myself in the future.”
As a mother with needs for flexibility within her job, at Webgears she knows that she can plan her work around her busy private life. She loves being able to either work from home or in the office, and Martina explains ” as well as the flexibility in working hours if things change spontaneously. She also knows that her work is greatly valued and important for the company. Even as a part-time employee she gets the chance to continuously develop herself and to be part of projects that she’s interested in and where she can learn a lot of new things.
Dan
HEAD OF PORTAL MANAGEMENT
Sports-Crazy Coupon Hunter Dan, who grew up near Springfield, Massachusetts, home of the Basketball Hall of Fame, should have become an athlete. And indeed, this American is certainly crazy for sports. From baseball and basketball to American Football, Dan is an ardent supporter of all the professional teams in Boston and likes to play sports himself – he loves football above all. It is no wonder that he moved to Europe as part of his degree while studying at Northeastern University. Dan studied International Business with minors in German and Marketing and fell in love with Germany during a study-abroad semester in Reutlingen. Afterwards, he was able to combine his interest in marketing and his enthusiasm for sports during an internship at the global adidas headquarters in Herzogenaurach.
In Love With Berlin Eventually it became clear: after his graduation, he would return to Germany. More specifically, to Berlin: “Berlin is an awesome city, with plenty of diversity, an endless offering of things to do and lively start-up scene,” he says. And because he can indulge in his passions here: “I’m a big fan of brunches, going out with friends and crawling the city in search of discovering something new. There is no better place for that than Berlin.” In 2014, Dan joined Webgears as one of the first employees in the Berlin office of the company. He is now responsible for overseeing all of the company’s global portals, spanning the US, UK and German markets. “Every day, we work hard to dig up every possible source of new deal and coupon content for our users, so that they can save while shopping online,” he says.
Daily Journeys of Discovery This is not the only challenge Dan currently faces: “Every market, in which we are active, has its own unique aspects. Understanding how each market is shifting and what customers are looking for when shopping online are crucial for maintaining the best possible coupon portals,” he says. “What I like most about my work at Webgears is that everything we do has a direct impact on our daily business and the overall user experience of everyone visiting our sites,” Dan continues. “As a team, we are responsible for continuously improving our offering of top coupons and deals day-by-day.” Dan is particularly enthusiastic about the work atmosphere at Webgears: “Finding and diving into new challenges is really easy to do. It is unique in that there are frequent possibilities to further develop, use and improve my existing skillset, as well as have an active influence on how we work and develop as a company.”
Sydney
Content Manager
Fun-loving California girl, Sydney, was born and raised in sunny Los Angeles, studied and majored in English rhetoric, writing, and literacy at Arizona State University. Since earning her degree, content creation and development have been her main career focus. She had the amazing opportunity to work as an ESL teacher, in Shanghai, China, creating and developing educational content for adult learners. After that, she began her role working as a content writer for a small family-owned business in the US, in an effort to gain the brand more online visibility in the midst of the pandemic. This role challenged her into creating content strategies in addition to creative blog-style articles for the company’s website. She then moved to Berlin and began working for Webgears in 2021.
As an energetic and adaptable Content Manager at Webgears, she maintains and writes content for all of the US portals. Since starting her position, the content and SEO team has begun working more closely, as they have learned that the two disciplines go hand-in-hand. She now has a large emphasis on ensuring that all of our content is written to serve both the user and Google. This proves to be quite the challenge because users are our potential customers looking for information online that help them in their shopping process, while Google is machine scanning our sites to determine whether our platforms are reliable resources to display in search engine results. Finding the balance between writing content for both real people and a machine is a hurdle Syndey faces on a daily basis but she says: “nevertheless, always having to evolve my writing and develop new ideas keeps me on my toes!”
Being open-minded and a team player makes Sydney love the challenges she faces at work and allows her to never be stagnant. She explains that “regardless of the project, I must always approach my tasks creatively, and as a creative person, this makes work extremely enjoyable. I also always have opportunities to learn new skills in my field to further develop my expertise. Similarly, I absolutely love my team! Whenever challenges arise, I have someone to go to for support and I am constantly learning from those around me. Webgears is filled with skilled, knowledgeable, and kind individuals, which makes for the best company culture and work environment.”
