Made in Barcelona, easy-going Ciara has been living in Berlin for the past 6 years. “My first idea was to move here to learn German for 6 months and then go back home, but somehow I got trapped in the Berlin underground vibe and have stayed there since”. Before moving to Marketing, the dark side of Communication as Ciara calls it, she finished a degree in Journalism and worked for a local TV and Radio station in Spain. After 5 years working in the SEO department of a travel search engine, the fond traveller was looking for new challenges in her career and found it as Head of Marketing at Webgears.
Organised and efficient As the position for the Head of Marketing hasn’t been occupied for a while, Ciara’s first task is redefining the roles needed in her team as well as creating a long-term strategy for the different portals. Another challenge for always positive Ciara, is also to try to be less dependant on Google and look for other channels for growth. “Personally, I am completely new to the world of coupons and discount codes, and SEO-wise, things work quite differently, compared to the travel industry”, she adds. However in her opinion, not being able to apply the same rules as with other industries, only makes her job more challenging and more interesting.
Social, friendly and caring, is another way how Ciara would describe herself. Her first job experience in Berlin was in a small startup, which she enjoyed a lot. “This is something I have missed lately and I have found it again at Webgears.” She appreciates, that everyone knows everyone in the office and that people are nice and easy-going. For Ciara it is fun to come to work everyday, especially as she has the trust of her managers and as she can see the impact of her work immediately.
Business Development Manager
Visionary Ländle Native Thomas, who was born and raised in Vorarlberg, was interested in innovative business models since he studied International Economics and Business Studies at the University of Innsbruck. While he spent a year studying abroad in Madrid his interest in the Startup world increased. Following his time there, he did an internship focussing on affiliate and content marketing, already preparing himself for his future at Webgears. His love for healthy food eventually led him to co-founding GymTea and PeakBar, two organic food brands. After selling the two brands in 2017 he was looking for a new challenge and joined Webgears as Business Development Manager.
Curious, goal-oriented and passionate about Business Development, that’s how Thomas ticks. He believes it is essential to perfectly understand business models and to permanently question them. “As a part of the product department, I try to constantly improve our portals in Germany, the UK and the US in terms of monetization and our partnerships with white labels.” Besides this, Thomas tasks include ensuring and improving affiliate tracking and both testing and planing landing pages. Other than that, he also assists in growing business partnerships. “A current challenge definitely is the strong competition against white labels of other media houses and publishers”, he stresses.
A young, international team of smart and motivated people s one of the main reasons why Thomas loves working at Webgears. With more than 10 different nationalities, it never gets boring in the office. Moreover he adds, “What I enjoy in the daily business is that the work can directly affect the company’s revenue. So small changes can really have a huge impact in the long run.” He attributes that to the flat hierarchy and the accordingly fast decision making processes at Webgears. “In my opinion this fosters a pleasant working environment.”
HEAD OF PORTAL MANAGEMENT
Sports-Crazy Coupon Hunter Dan, who grew up near Springfield, Massachusetts, home of the Basketball Hall of Fame, should have become an athlete. And indeed, this American is certainly crazy for sports. From baseball and basketball to American Football, Dan is an ardent supporter of all the professional teams in Boston and likes to play sports himself – he loves football above all. It is no wonder that he moved to Europe as part of his degree while studying at Northeastern University. Dan studied International Business with minors in German and Marketing and fell in love with Germany during a study-abroad semester in Reutlingen. Afterwards, he was able to combine his interest in marketing and his enthusiasm for sports during an internship at the global adidas headquarters in Herzogenaurach.
In Love With Berlin Eventually it became clear: after his graduation, he would return to Germany. More specifically, to Berlin: “Berlin is an awesome city, with plenty of diversity, an endless offering of things to do and lively start-up scene,” he says. And because he can indulge in his passions here: “I’m a big fan of brunches, going out with friends and crawling the city in search of discovering something new. There is no better place for that than Berlin.” In 2014, Dan joined Webgears as one of the first employees in the Berlin office of the company. He is now responsible for overseeing all of the company’s global portals, spanning the US, UK and German markets. “Every day, we work hard to dig up every possible source of new deal and coupon content for our users, so that they can save while shopping online,” he says.
Daily Journeys of Discovery This is not the only challenge Dan currently faces: “Every market, in which we are active, has its own unique aspects. Understanding how each market is shifting and what customers are looking for when shopping online are crucial for maintaining the best possible coupon portals,” he says. “What I like most about my work at Webgears is that everything we do has a direct impact on our daily business and the overall user experience of everyone visiting our sites,” Dan continues. “As a team, we are responsible for continuously improving our offering of top coupons and deals day-by-day.” Dan is particularly enthusiastic about the work atmosphere at Webgears: “Finding and diving into new challenges is really easy to do. It is unique in that there are frequent possibilities to further develop, use and improve my existing skillset, as well as have an active influence on how we work and develop as a company.”
Curious and eager to learn Philip grew up in Austria’s second smallest state and home to Webgears, Vorarlberg, and was already showing interest in technology early during his childhood. “What started with messing around on the computer – most of the time resulting in breaking stuff”, he laughs, “continued in studying computer science at the FH Vorarlberg, where I learned how to develop actual running software”. Philips journey with Webgears started while he was still a student, when he worked part time next to finishing his degree.
From student to Lead Developer He finally was able to start as a full time developer and since then has been growing professionally. “Nowadays, I am responsible for all kind of technical decisions our development team takes, which is a way more creative task, than you would think at first”, he explains. Philips goal is to make sure that the software and technical stack is both representing and supporting the business objectives. In collaboration with his team, he tries to create future proof projects, that will help the business grow even further. Next to planning upcoming projects, caffeine-addicted Philip is also still involved in writing, testing and debugging code on a daily basis.
“No week is like another” , he adds, “there are different challenges every week and therefore, our team has to come up with all kind of different solutions, so work is never boring”. This leaves enough room for growth, one of his most favourite parts of working at Webgears. “We learn new things every day, which makes us better developers”. What he appreciates even more, is Webgears support in further developing his skills by sending him to trainings and conferences. Because Philip believes, most developers need to get challenged in order to get better.

From a young age Alex discovered his passion for computers, growing even stronger over the years. As a teenager he spent countless hours per day developing computer games and more or less meaningful applications. Later on he met Daniel and Tobias at his former employer’s. They got Tobias to come along for the ride and the three of them were an unbeatable team. Shortly afterwards, the idea of Preisjäger was born, laying the cornerstone for Webgears GmbH.
Although he will continuously value Daniel’s and Tobias’ input (his former CEO-Partners), today Alexander holds the position of chief executive officer alone. He will always remain a passionate developer, not differentiating between his or others’ ideas. Always refining and perfecting them.
Advisor & Co-Founder
While other children were playing Anno 1602 on their PCs, Daniel was already building his first website, offering downloads of great wallpapers and homework. Daniel quickly became the best-kept secret at school and his classmates are still grateful to him to this day that they didn’t have to sit at home for hours doing their homework.
Having put his heart into Webgears for nearly a decade, former CEO Daniel, will always stay close by to see further developments of the company. In his new function as Advisor Daniel provides support to his colleagues. SEO (search engine optimization) is one of his great passions. We are happy that he shares his knowledge with the rest of the team.

Even from an early age Tobias dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur one day and developed intellectually promising business ideas. The more creative and unusual the ideas were, the better. Along with Alex and Daniel, Tobias developed the idea for Webgears GmbH, laying the foundation for an internationally successful company.
As a former CEO, Tobias’ heart will always beat for Webgears GmbH. He remains part of the team and provides support to his colleagues in his new function as Advisor - sharing his knowledge and expertise. Tobias is passionate about innovation, new trends and business models – both online and offline. His family is a haven, where he can relax and recharge his batteries.
