Webgears’ smart-shopping experts are focusing on the core markets of Germany, UK and the USA, as well as their successful partner-cooperation – as a result they are closing portals in seven different countries.

It has become clear that the successful business model of gutscheinsammler.de (Germany), voucherbox.co.uk (UK) and couponbox.com (USA) is not easily transferred onto other markets – at least not without major investment efforts. As a result, the voucher code portals in the Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain, Canada, Australia and India have been closed in November 2017.

“We decided to focus our resources on our most important markets and expand the business of partner-cooperation” explains Webgears CEO Alexander Bitsche. Well-known partners such as Computerbild, Urlaubspiraten or Mydealz already rely on cooperation with Webgears. “This gives our business partners the opportunity to monetize their traffic. Although we operate in a digitized environment, we have direct and personal business relationships with our users. In the future, we will focus our resources more intensively on customer support” affirmed the Webgears boss. Currently, the company is in negotiations with potential new partners.

The closure of seven portals will have little impact on sales and will not affect the number of employees. On the contrary: Webgears expects a sales increase of 7 % to around 12 million Euros for the current financial year. “The restructuring will have little impact on our operations. Our business model works flawlessly and we do our job very well. We have not completely shut the door to potential new expansion measures, but for the foreseeable future, we will increase our focus on providing high quality customer service” said Bitsche.
